Certified Product Carbon Footprint

Purchasing departments can make a significant contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions in their value chain. To do so, they need to know the carbon footprint of the products they purchase. Companies are receiving more and more enquiries from customers who want to know how much CO₂ the products they buy emit. But how can this be calculated? Sattler KunststoffWerk GmbH manufactures customised, solid-coloured plastic granulates from both virgin and secondary raw materials. To determine the PCF of the individual compounds, the company has brought two competent partners on board for this pilot project: the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid and Carbon Minds.

Sattler PC Ekalon® recycling compounds have been UL-listed and VDE-tested for more than 25 years, have a recycled content of at least 90% – and are produced using 100% green electricity from Norwegian hydropower plus operational photovoltaics. This means they have a minimal carbon footprint and offer Sattler KunststoffWerk GmbH's customers added value through genuine sustainability. The sustainability of customer-specific Sattler RecyclingCompounds is now documented in black and white on the product-related carbon footprint certified by the Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute – in kilograms of CO2 equivalents per kilogram of plastic granulate produced and packaged.

A method certified by TÜV (Technical Inspection Association) was used to calculate the product carbon footprint of the entire compound portfolio for each individual product and document it in accordance with ISO 14067.
