About us
The Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) is your service provider for the development, processing and application of plastics and plastic products. IKV offers you interdisciplinary solutions from a single source for all questions relating to plastics. Our experts in the Centre for Plastics Analysis and Testing are your contacts for material identification and characterisation, material card generation and product testing as well as for targeted defect and damage analyses.
Our research departments can provide you with in-depth support in the development and research of new materials, products and components as well as processing methods. The practical research of our 80 scientists is characterised by extensive knowledge and many years of experience in all areas of plastics technology. Research for practical application is our slogan.
The expertise of our experts can also be utilised in the form of consulting and seminars. IKV offers regular seminars on the fundamental issues of the plastics industry. In addition, workshops and seminars customised to your specific requirements provide a direct benefit for your company. Plastics analysing and testing
When correctly deployed, plastics analysis and testing are vital tools when it comes to describing the state of a material. With the aid of an expertly devised analysis, it is usually possible to take a plastic product and deduce the type of material used, the quality of the processing and the conditions it has experienced in use. Through suitable tests, the material data can be identified for subsequent product and process development. This is invaluable for product quality, product reliability and product safety in every respect. Experience is key here. And you can benefit greatly from combining your experience with ours. In this way it is possible to quickly gain valuable information on material and process development, product testing, quality assurance, and systematic failure and damage analysis.
Networking
The IKV Association of Sponsors aspires to secure the competitiveness of the plastics industry in the face of increasingly global competition. The Association was set up to this end in 1950 through the efforts of the still young plastics industry at that time. Today, the international network has a membership of some 290 companies, societies and industry associations. By setting up and maintaining the IKV – Institute for Plastics Processing at RWTH Aachen University, the Association of Sponsors ensures first and foremost that students at RWTH Aachen receive training in the field of plastics engineering and thus secures a supply of excellently trained engineers for the industry. In parallel, the Institute for Plastics Processing conducts research at scientific level into issues of practical relevance that are submitted to it by its network of members. Training and Education
Qualified employees are the driving force behind the success of your company. IKV develops training course concepts and media for basic and advanced training in plastics processing. IKV offers a variety of further training opportunities. In addition to regular seminars and specialist conferences, individual training courses can also be offered for plastics technology. A mix of practical application in the IKV's technical centres or on-site at your company and the theoretical basics, prepared by IKV experts, enables further training for your success.
Research for Practical Use
The research and development of new technologies for processing innovative materials forms the basis for the technological developments of tomorrow. In Germany, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia holds the number one position in materials research, with Aachen as the most important research location. Embedded in the research landscape of RWTH Aachen University, IKV has, for more than six decades, formed the bridgehead between basic university research and industrial application. The linking-up of science and industry is at the heart of IKV research. IKV is divided into six departments, with more than 80 scientists working continuously on various application-related, technological and material science projects in the field of plastics.
