About us
In the InCamS@BI project we are working on optimizing plastics for a Circular Economy.
Together with companies we launch concrete projects that contribute to the handling of plastics in the spirit of Circular Economy Principles. By that we create Transfer structures that can also be used by other disciplines after our project is completed.
We work on this in an interdisciplinary team Natural scientists, engineers, lawyers, economists and psychologists work together on new solutions.

Barcamp
A Barcamp is a participatory conference where participants from business, science, and society can contribute their ideas, questions, and suggestions. Our Barcamps each have an overarching theme, on which input is provided at the beginning. The subsequent program is open and depends on the participants. The goal of the Barcamps is to foster intensive exchange between the various stakeholders. After the Barcamp, we aim to develop the ideas together.
Expert Panels
The expert panels are composed of representatives from companies and InCamS@BI. Current research, application possibilities, and new developments are discussed in a confidential format. The focus is on sharing experiences and mutual support. The expert panels also serve to initiate collaborations and joint projects between companies and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Bielefeld University. Currently, expert panels are held on the topics of "Circular Economy in Corporate Strategy," "Innovation Forum," and "Plastics and the Circular Economy."
Makeathons
Bei einem Makeathon bringen Unternehmen aktuelle Herausforderungen aus ihrem Arbeitsalltag mit. Für diese Challenges entwickeln studentische Teams innerhalb einer definierten Zeitspanne Lösungsansätze. In der Regel startet ein Makeathon mit einer Auftaktveranstaltung, bei der die Challenges vorgestellt werden und sich die Teams spontan bilden. Vor der eigentlichen Arbeitsphase werden methodische Inputs zur Ideenfindung oder zum Projektmanagement vermittelt. Bei der Abschlussveranstaltung präsentieren die Gruppen ihre Lösungsansätze. Diese werden bei Bedarf im Semester weiterbearbeitet.
Technology Checks
The Technology Check (TechCheck for short) helps companies identify starting points for circular value creation (the circular economy). Following an analysis of the current situation, we identify individual areas of action with you and jointly develop solutions. The process: After a brief discussion to gain an initial understanding, we schedule two half-day appointments. We will focus on the value chain of one of your products on-site, at ours, or online. At the end of the TechCheck, you will receive ideas for quick wins—ideas that can be implemented quickly and easily—as well as an overview of the long-term opportunities your company has for continuing to work together with HSBI and InCamS@BI. The solutions can be further developed and pursued in a subsequent collaboration.
