About us
The FDU (Flat Die Unit) was originally a development synergy project of various companies in the mouldmaking group HAIDLMAIR GROUP. Since 2019, a team of experts from the hot runner sector has been leading the newly founded FDU Hotrunner GmbH, taking care of sales and constantly developing innovations.
The FDU is a wide slot die that optimally combines the advantages of injection moulding and extrusion technology. The flow channel in the nozzle is projected onto a flat nozzle. The plastic flows evenly distributed through a defined slot (instead of a point gate) into the cavity. This opens up new possibilities in the production of plastic parts.
The advantages arise primarily from the optimized properties in terms of shear/heat, energy consumption, injection pressure, holding pressure and reduced cycle time. In terms of cycle time in particular, reductions of almost 20% have already been achieved in successfully completed projects. In addition, the maximum shear rate can be reduced by up to 60%, which is particularly useful for particularly shear-sensitive materials, such as: Biopolymers or recycled materials enable easier processing.
The innovative hot runner system is manufactured in-house by skilled workers on state-of-the-art machines and optimally adapted to the respective mould specifications. Precise simulations ensure that the right FDU model is found for the respective application. With their decades of experience, the FDU Hotrunner experts help to interpret the results perfectly and thus help customers achieve higher productivity.
