Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
UHMW-PE are PE types with molecular weights from 1 million g/mol up to 10 million g/mol. Standard types are used in the range of 3–5 million g/mol. With increasing molecular weight, wear resistance and impact strength, in particular, improve.
UHMW-PE exhibits the most balanced property profile of all polyethylenes and offers very good impact strength even at temperatures down to minus 200°C.

Characteristic properties:
Best wear resistance of all engineering plastics at room temperature, very low coefficients of sliding friction, excellent sliding properties, very good stress crack resistance, noise reduction, UV resistance.

Areas of application:
Protective devices, lining technology, general mechanical engineering, conveyor technology, medical technology, protective clothing, sports & leisure equipment.

Processing:
Due to the high molecular weight, the material viscosity also increases, so UHMWPE can generally only be processed using RAM extrusion and press-sintering processes. Semi-finished products for further machining can thus be produced with very low stresses. With our partner IRPC, we are currently developing a UHMWPE granulate grade suitable for injection molding.
